Brooke's Book Log

Brooke and class have to read 50 books for April and May. For every 50 books they read, 50 books will be donated to children of Military Families and School. My goal for Brooke is to do 50 herself. We normally read three a night, but as she is reading harder books, sometimes only one. This gives us about 60 days, so as long as we do one a night we should make it!

Sleep

This book did make a huge difference when my kids were healthy enough, and had no issues like full diaper in the middle of the night. At least they go to sleep easy on their own.
The Sleep Easy Solution

Children Birth Through Age 5

Please note that the ranges and totals given below are approximate, and that some children need less sleep while others need more. When helping your child learn how to sleep, you’ll want to shoot for the minimum of 11 hours at night and 1 hour for each nap. Paying attention to your child’s mood and behavior is the best gauge of whether your child is getting the right amount of sleep

Currently Brooke is getting 10 1/2 hours a night with sometimes 1-3 hour nap. Some days not enough, other days just right. Probably could go to bed earlier (too bad she's a night person) And no wonder so hard to get up in the am.
JJ is getting 11 hours at night (on a good night which doesn't happen often, frequent night wakenings) and 1-3 hours in 1-2 naps. he's pretty textbook.

  • Bedtime: 7:30 PM
  • Waketime: 6:30 AM

Transitioning from Crib to Bed

  • Don’t transition child to bed before age 3 unless she is climbing out of her crib.
  • If your child is climbing out of his crib, safety is most important and it may be time to make the transition to a bed. For help with this transition, see chapter 10, “Special Situations,” in our book, The Sleepeasy Solution. This subject is also covered on our DVD, in “Commonly Asked Questions,” and on our audio CD for Children 3 to 5 Years.

2 TO 3 YEARS
11 to 12 hours of night sleep; 1½ to 3 hours of nap sleep (1 nap)

  • Bedtime: 8:00 PM
  • Waketime: 7:00 AM
  • Nap: 12:00 PM

3 TO 5 YEARS
11 to 12 hours of night sleep; 1½ to 2 hours of nap sleep (if still napping)

  • Bedtime: 8:00 PM
  • Waketime: 6:30 AM
  • Nap: 12:30 PM
  • May need to make bedtime earlier when child drops nap
These schedules are pretty similar to what we do, just need to be more forcefull with Brooke taking nap or at least quiet time.

Happiness

The Happiness Project was a book about a woman Gretchen Rubin who tried to do the things that make you happy for a year to see how she felt. Some of the tips included:

1. Get more Energy-
Get enough sleep, Excersise daily, Organize your things and your life, tackle nagging tasks, act more energetic
2. Remember Love-
Don't nah, don't expect praise, and fight fairly
3. Work
Work smarter not harder, ask for help
4. Parent hood
Lighten up, acknowledge your feelings, make happy memories together, do projects together, sing in the morning (don't scream)
5. Play
Have more fun, be silly , decide what you like
6. Make time for friends
Remember birthdays, be generous, show up, don't gossip
7. Money
Modest splurges, buy needful things, cut something out
8. Be grateful and spiritual
9. Persue a passion
10 Pay attention-

Keep a journal of your energy drains. Is there a conversation that you should be having, are you trying to make a goal that doesn't make sense, are you holding on to something?
